Classes

DancExplosion offers classes in 2's Dance Too, ballet, tap, jazz, clogging, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, modern and musical theater.  We enforce limited class sizes which allow one-on-one attention and instruction. We also focus on age appropriate terminology and technique for each dance style.

Ballet/Tap

This combination class is designed for students 3-5 years old. At this age, children absorb so much, including rhythm. Special attention is given to this age because it is such an impressionable group. We do more than creative dance, we introduce students to basic terminology, the foundations of dance, and a "first love" of dance. We accomplish this by incorporating familiar songs, props, and imagination into the class. As a result, students build coordination and confidence, interact with peers, and have fun!

Ballet

Ballet is identified by its graceful and flowing movements. Emphasis is put on building strength mostly in the lower body, particularly the legs, and the core. By strengthening the body, the dancer develops better posture and increases flexibility. Ballet class is recommended for every dancer. Ballet is the foundation upon which all other dance forms are based.

Tap

The name comes from the tapping sound made when metal plates on the dancer's shoes hit the floor. Tap dancers use syncopation and improvisation to produce lively performances.

Jazz

Jazz dance is a form commonly used in Broadway shows and movies. It is a more contemporary dance as compared to ballet. To excel in jazz dancing, the dancer needs to develop ballet techniques. Movements are big in jazz and there is usually an attitude conveyed to the audience.

Clogging

Clogging is a traditional type of percussive folk dance. At DancExplosion, you will recognize the Appalachian style of clogging as well as the contemporary style. In contemporary clogging, movements are high-energy and precise. (On a side note, clogging is the official state dance of North Carolina!) Clogging instruction is offered to ages 4 and up.

Hip Hop

Hip hop is a street dance style that evolved out of the hip hop movement. You can identify hip hop dancing in many artists' music videos such as Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, etc.

Contemporary/Lyrical

Contemporary/lyrical dance is a fusion of ballet and jazz techniques. The form challenges the dancer to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. Ballet experience is suggested.

Musical Theater

Musical Theater brings the jazz style of broadway from NYC to you. Dancers perform to classic songs from famous broadway productions such as Hairspray, Mama Mia, Annie, Wicked, and Sweet Charity.
